If you’re a person just beginning to self-publish, or someone on the fence about getting started.
Let me tell you a secret.
You are the NOT the first person to do this.
Self-publishing is not new, nor is it novel.
Self-Publishing as a Business is NOT New
People have been self-publishing and earning a full-time income on Amazon with books they create for about 10 years. And realistically the number is much larger if you count the people who were publishing in an unconventional manner.
It’s been about 10 years that Amazon has owned Createspace.
Createspace is a print-on-demand service that allows you to publish and sell printed versions of your work through Amazon.
The process is fairly simple:
You upload your manuscript to Createspace and perform some necessary formatting techniques, then Createspace makes a listing for your work on Amazon and whenever someone purchases your book.
It is printed on demand and shipped to the customer.
You get a notification in your dashboard about the amount of royalties earned and the country the work was purchased in, and eventually the royalties are paid to you.
Overall, the process is fairly simple because Createspace and Amazon handle most of the logistics that make publishing difficult.
But before we continue.
The Proof is in the Pudding
Think about the fact that people have been doing this for 10 years.
10 years!
Isn’t that a good amount of time?
I would argue 10 years is a long enough time to prove the business model works, and that there is a real demand for books.
The Real Reason Selling Books on Amazon Works
The reason publishing on Amazon works so well is because Amazon was started as an online bookstore.
(Look at the Wikipedia for Amazon if you do not believe me).
That was the intention of Jeff Bezos when he started the business: To create a massive bookstore online.
Given that Amazon started as a bookstore, selling books works well.
Remember This:
- People have been doing this profitably for 10 years.
